This year, New York Fashion Week took place from February 4 to February 12. Although my exposure to Fashion Week is limited to content from YouTubers and Social Media Influencers, I think I’ve managed to get a pretty good handle on this year’s Spring and Summer trends.
First off: colours, colours, colours. Last year, highlighter colours, especially hot pink and lime green, were becoming popular in fashion, but I would argue that this year pastel colours, including mint green and lavender, are taking center stage in fashion.
Next on the list are sweatsuits. Or better yet, tie-dye sweatsuits. For the past few months, tutorials for making DIY sweatsuits using either tie-dye or bleach have been circling around social media. These sweatsuits are a great way to mix comfort and creativity.
Speaking of suits, business casual is still going strong this season. Over the past few months, I’ve seen many Fashion Bloggers styling oversized blazers with casual pieces such as jeans and a tank top or even joggers and a t-shirt.
In terms of accessories, chunky jewellery and 90’s inspired hair clips are gaining popularity this season, and for materials and patterns, satin and animal print are still the way to go.
