On March 16, the UNC Ballroom will be turned into a casino as Nourishing Futures hosts their first big event of the semester, Cards for a Cause. The event will take place from 6PM to 10PM, offering performances, food and drinks, as well as casino games, including poker, blackjack, wheel of fortune and more. In preparation for this event, the club acquired a gaming license to host the event.

Despite being active for only a year, the club managed to gather a lot of support from sponsors such as The Curious Café, Social242, The Hot Box Yoga and more. Besides being thankful for the sponsors, Tan also expressed gratitude to the entire team for helping out with the event planning, “rather than having just the exec team plan everything out, we wanted more input from the team members as well because we really want the club to grow. We really value everyone’s suggestions and ideas and we feel that it’s good preparation for any future execs.”

Tickets are currently on sale around campus or by request through messaging their Facebook page. All proceeds will go towards Kelowna General Hospital in support of the Wishing Well Project.

“The Wishing Well Program was founded by 2 nurses in the ICU, who were inspired to help patients and families through the grieving process,” explained Andrea Tan, VP External of Nourishing Futures. The Wishing Well Program brings a comfort cart, complete with journals, candles, and note cards into patients’ room upon their decision to withdraw clinical care. It also supports remembrance pendants (fingerprints or heartbeats) made into beautiful charms for family members to have and keep. If you would like to know more information about the program, you can contact Sasha Carter at sasha.carter@interiorhealth.ca.

All students, whether they know how to play casino games or not, are welcome to attend. Not only will it be an interesting experience, but students will also be donating to a good cause while participating in the entertainment.
