Ballet Jörgen brings, Coppélia, a contemporary comedic ballet.

The Vernon and District are promoting their third show in their dance spotlight series. Coppélia is one of the oldest surviving ballets, and is the best known and most performed comedic ballet worldwide. This hilariously bold tale takes the audience into the mind of Dr. Coppelius, a lonely and disillusioned toymaker who longs to bring a perfect doll to life.

Ballet Jörgen brings this contemporary retelling of the story, and it is sure to be a delight. This play will run February 20, 2019, at 7:30pm. Tickets are $45 for adults, $42 for the seniors, and $40 dollars for students.

Once Dr. Coppelius creates Coppélia, hilarious chaos ensues when a young villager named Nathanial falls in love with her. His partner does not react too kindly to this knowledge and seeks to take revenge on Nathanial. The light-hearted story has proven to be the Ballet company’s most popular family ballet.

Bengt Jörgen shows off the original choreography and the incredible technical talent of the company’s dancers. The movement is approached with intimacy, humour, and dramatic intensity. The original debut for Ballet Jörgen was in 2001 in conjunction with the Hong Kong Ballet.

For those interested in dancing, Ballet Jörgen are also offering a selection of programs. For $20, you can participate in a Master Class from 6:00-7:30pm on February 19. This price also allows you entrance into the ballet the following night. This is half the price of regular admission, and you get a dance class on top of it. Ballet Jörgen is also looking for local dancers for their Local Participant program. This enables young dancers to join them onstage during the performance. On February 19, they will also be holding auditions for their Education programs in Marie Flemming Hall. The auditions will run from 7:30 until 9:00pm.

Tickets are available at or by phone at (250) 549-7469. Come support local theatre and experience something new and exciting!
