After winning the team competition of PACWEST 2018 Gold Championships, the Heat Women’s Golf has advanced into the 2018 CCAA Golf National Championships.

This year, the PACWEST Championships were hosted by Vancouver Island University (VIU), Nanaimo Campus, in Nanaimo Golf Club.

Similar to PACWEST’s tournament set-up, the Heat Men’s and Women’s Golf team were competing in a group match with five other schools in a three day tournament. The Heat Women’s Golf won the first place in group competitions with 498 hits in a total of three days’ courses.

Individually, Samantha Copeland and Rebecca Reitsma received the silver and bronze medals. Copeland completed the three days’ course with 247 hits in total, standing with the same number of hits as Gold medalist, Alex Foston from VIU.

“In terms of the result from PACWEST, I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't capture the gold, but I was still proud of my game that I was able to make it into a playoff,” said Copeland, Silver medalist from PACWEST Championships.

“When Alex hit it to 3 feet on the playoff hole, I knew that it would be hard to beat; however, I’m glad that I played well over the weekend and was able to help my team to win overall,” she added.

Reitsma received the bronze medal after playing the three days’ courses with 253 hits in total.

“I really didn’t have any expectations going into this season. I just wanted to play consistently. The results I got from this season so far have surpassed any expectation. I’m very happy with how I’ve played so far and the success that the team has had as a whole.” said Reitsma.

Additionally, McKenna Lesiuk, one of the team members in women’s golf team, also had a impressive results. She finished the courses with 261 hits standing in the fourth place.

All three of our Heat Women’s Golf have taken standings from second to fourth place with outstanding performances.

Unfortunately, though the Heat Men’s Golf played well and received the third place in group matches with 923 hits, the team did not make into the nationals’ level.

Coach Cass, Head Coach of The Heat Golf team is satisfied with result of PACWEST championships: “I am very excited for our girls at Nationals. It’s always a great experience for everyone.”
