Homecoming 2018 kicked off with great success on October 19. From the Kick-off Breakfast in morning all the way to the end of the day, students, both old and new, gathered on campus and showed support for all the events throughout the day. The highlight, though, was the University Way Streetfest. Despite the cold weather, many people came out to the event filled with food, games and music.
The University Way Streetfest started at 6p.m., but food trucks and booths were well-prepared beforehand. A variety of food trucks were present ranging from Papadoms with Indian food, Chick Chick Boom’s Rotisserie Chicken, to German-style food by Peter Ze German. Not only that, there were many fun activities and carnival games such as Jenga, Connect 4, Mini Golf and Trivia questions. There was also a dunk tank, courtesy of JDC.
The atmosphere at the Streetfest was livened by musical performances as well. Talented students and alumni, Emily Amaral, Amber Bayani and Post-Modern Connection, showcased their beautiful voices on stage. Wrapping up the event, a special guest performer and country artist, Ben Klick, warmed the crowd with his music.
Klick even expressed his excitement about being able to perform for the UBCO community, “It was my first time playing up at UBCO in the years I’ve been living in the Okanagan, and the overall atmosphere UBCO creates for students, special guests, and performers, is one of the friendliest and most supportive communities I’ve gotten to be a part of. It made me feel right at home.”
Singing some of his recent releases along with some traditional style cover songs, Klick also enjoyed the successful event. “Being a part of the 2018 UBCO Homecoming was an incredible experience! Dunk tanks, food trucks, games, and live local music lined the street, and being able to play for students, fellow alumni, and fans that came out to the show who danced right through the night was awesome,” said Klick.
