Many programs require, or at least prefer, students to have volunteer hours to get accepted into the program. It is not always easy to find the time to fit that in between assignments, class times, and for many students a job. Low commitment volunteer opportunities are not still easy to find so when one comes up it's exciting. The Kelowna Art Gallery wants to add to their roster of volunteers for this year’s School Tour program. It runs from September until June and only requires a couple of hours a week as a commitment. The responsibilities would include leading students on gallery tours, facilitating discussion about what the students see in the gallery and assisting in some hands-on art activities.
Each year this program welcomes over 6000 students that range in age from Kindergarten to Grade 12 students. This is, for many, the first experience with an art gallery in the Central Okanagan. No need to worry — the Art Gallery offers full training for volunteers. The gallery will provide a full rundown of the content of each exhibition and have experience working with students in the setting of the Art Gallery. The applications are due by September 17th and can be found online or in person at the gallery. You can also call them at (250) 762-2226 for any questions that you might have. It is located at 1315 Water Street across from the Grand Hotel. This type of volunteering is perfect for students wanting to enter the teaching program as this provides an opportunity to guide and work with children. The low hourly commitment is ideal for busy students. It is only two hours per week and its volunteer experience working with children of various ages so it is perfect for any field where you will be working with students.
