UDC’s Annual Danceology
Urban Dance Club (UDC) held their annual dance show, Danceology, at the ADM Theatre on Saturday, March 18. With the theatre seats all filled up and the enthusiastic crowd, the show seemed to have been a success. The president of the club, Rachel Lee, says the success of the show would not have been made possible without the help of the dancers and people behind the scenes: “The admin and the execs, we all get together and we create pieces starting in January. We also contact other dance teams on campus and we also contact people out in the community to organize a dance show that everyone can come chill and enjoy.”
Obstacles and challenges arose despite preparations for the event, but the team took initiative and overcame them together. As this is an event run by students, the president did not fail to give them credit for it, “I can’t speak for the guest performers but for Urban Dance Club pieces, the pieces… are done by students. The teachers and instructors are all students, they put in hours of hard work to create choreography and teach.”
The night was led by two interactive and friendly MCs, who introduced all the dances that night. “There's so much! There's a lot of Hip-Hop, a lot of contemporary and jazz. There's tap dancing, there's breakdancing. Outside of Urban Dance Club, we also have Cosmic Co-Motion. They also perform for various circuses and other shows,” states Rachel Lee, as she goes on to mention other guests, “we have breakdancers coming from outside of Urban Dance Club and we have Dipp Dance. We have the African Caribbean Dance Club, ASA Dance Team. It’s very diverse!
If students are interested in participating in Danceology, president Rachel Lee is very welcoming to whoever is interested: “they can always email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or they can always message us on Facebook, at UBCO Urban Dance Club. We’re pretty good at replying on time!”
